          From observation, and experience we develop expectations and a perception of continuity and predictability. But when this all leads to unwarranted speculation and stereotyping perhaps we need to rethink our mode of "reasoning" and understanding of Truth.

So, how did we break out of the classical trap of relying upon our perceptions only to subsequently drop ourselves into a different trap that has enslaved us for the past 100 years? How did we become sequestered in this cul-de-sac of pseudo understanding designated by labels such as : The (fill in the blank) Interpretation of Quantum Mechanics?

The following is a heuristic approach to resolving this dilemma.






As illustrated in Section One : Whence We Came we developed a classical view of reality to compensate for our faulty perceptions and penchants for the simpleminded acceptance of the "obvious". Each of us has a unique perspective on the flow of events and it is doubtful we will ever fully agree upon the most important lessons to be learned from each "discovery".

The Evolutionary Argument Against Reality


The Early 1900s challenge: The "Dark Clouds on the Horizon" in the late 1800s were about how knowledge didn’t match reality. The developments of the early 1900s were about reconciling laboratory measurements with theory. The class emphasis will highlight the mistakes that are made by "modern philosophers" that adhere tenaciously to ancient truths and prejudices. The second segment of sessions will be an attempt to explore why, over tens of decades, we cling to our classical view of Reality.

We ask questions concerning intentionality where intentionality does not, or in reality cannot, exist! We fail to ask questions concerning intentionality where intentionality is obviously, or demonstrable, present!




I will use The Game of Life (a robust computing environment) as an analogy to the real world to describe how we approached an understanding of Reality a little more than one hundred years ago. Starting with how Observations lead to inferring microscopic Processes guiding our construction of a Theory that then suggests how we might apprehend Reality. To truly apprehend Reality we must figure out how to understand Quantum Mechanics (a seemingly impossible task).

About one hundred years ago we learned that our natural language, senses, and logic are poorly suited for understanding Reality, which is governed by Quantum Mechanics. Unfortunately, we institutionalized a pseudo-understanding grounded in classical motifs that engender all manner of unfortunate unintended consequences.

The challenge is to develop a coherent narrative that avoids the pitfalls of pseudoscience while developing a "Modern" approach to understanding Reality. The core theme of this class is: The world doesn’t work the way it appears to work, but we can deal with this while leaving aside the mathematical esoterica often included in such presentations.

The only prerequisite for this class is your willingness to question classically defined proclivities and preconceptions while emphasizing "the how" rather than "the why" of natural phenomena, and being open to the notion that science is grounded in its theoretical rather than its experimental methods.
